Exam comparison
JN0-106 vs AZ-700: on-premises or Azure networking?
About these exams
JN0-106 is the exam for Junos, Associate (JNCIA-Junos). Juniper designs it for networking professionals with beginner-intermediate knowledge of networking, and it checks your understanding of the core functionality of Junos OS. AZ-700, Designing and Implementing Microsoft Azure Networking Solutions, leads to Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate and covers designing and implementing networking in Azure: connectivity, application delivery, private access and network security.
In short: JN0-106 is a vendor baseline for Junos devices; AZ-700 is an intermediate exam on Azure networking. If you are new to Junos, JN0-106 is the gentler start; if your network lives in Azure, go to AZ-700.

Official objectives and domains
JN0-106
Seven exam objectives, no weighting published:
- Networking Fundamentals
- Junos OS Fundamentals
- User Interfaces
- Configuration Basics
- Operational Monitoring and Maintenance
- Routing Fundamentals
- Routing Policy and Firewall Filters
AZ-700
Five domains with official weights:
- Design and implement core networking infrastructure 25–30 %
- Design, implement, and manage connectivity services 20–25 %
- Design and implement application delivery services 15–20 %
- Design and implement private access to Azure services 10–15 %
- Design and implement Azure network security services 15–20 %
What overlaps and what differs
Overlap: both rest on networking fundamentals. Microsoft expects AZ-700 candidates to understand name resolution, network protocols and network address management, and JN0-106 opens with a Networking Fundamentals objective. Both also deal with routing and with filtering traffic.
Differs: JN0-106 is about operating a Junos device: the CLI and other user interfaces, configuration basics, monitoring and maintenance, static routing, routing policy and firewall filters. AZ-700 is about Azure services: virtual networks and IP addressing, site-to-site VPN and ExpressRoute, Virtual WAN, Load Balancer, Application Gateway and Front Door, Private Link, and Azure Firewall.
Who should choose which
Choose JN0-106 if…
- You work, or will work, on Juniper devices running Junos OS
- You want a first certification with no prerequisite certification
- You aim at Juniper's tracks: the page says JNCIA-Junos is the baseline certification for the Enterprise and Service Provider Routing and Switching tracks
Choose AZ-700 if…
- You design or run networks in Azure
- You connect on-premises sites to Azure (VPN, ExpressRoute)
- You need an exam available in languages other than English
